To the Lighthouse
Virginia Woolf
Woolf names the Isle of Skye, but the house, the bay and the lighthouse are drawn entirely from St Ives, Cornwall, where the Stephen family spent childhood summers. The map runs from Talland House, the Woolfs' real holiday home above the town, out across St Ives Bay to Godrevy Lighthouse, the light the children could see from the garden and the one the family in the novel longs to reach.
