Chapter 3

In the great room where Bath society drinks the waters and takes its daily turn, Catherine Morland is paraded by her chaperone in search of acquaintance. Here she cements her friendship with the scheming Isabella Thorpe and keeps hoping to meet the witty Mr Tilney again. The Pump Room is the marriage market where the whole comedy of manners is transacted.
