Central Mozambique in the years of the civil war. An old man and a boy shelter in a burnt-out bus on an abandoned road through the bush and read a dead man's notebooks, whose journey runs along the Indian Ocean coast around Beira and Sofala and back through the ruined interior. The country is real and the war is real; the exact road and camps are left unnamed.
