West Egg and East Egg are Fitzgerald's names for the real Great Neck (Kings Point) and Sands Point peninsulas, facing each other across Manhasset Bay. The valley of ashes is the Corona ash dumps in Queens, passed on the road and railway into the city under the eyes of Doctor T. J. Eckleburg. The Plaza is the Plaza.
