The Third Wedding

In a torrent of gossip, grievance and love, two Athenian women, Nina and the indomitable Ekavi, tell the tangled story of their families across the middle of the twentieth century, through marriages, the German Occupation and the Civil War. The real city is their whole world: the middle-class neighbourhoods of Kypseli and Patissia where the households rise and fall, old Plaka beneath the Acropolis, and the central squares where the famine and the fighting come.

Nina's story

From her apartment in the crowded, respectable neighbourhoods, Nina pours out the story of her marriages, her disappointments and her furious, loving friendship with Ekavi. Taktsis makes the ordinary Athenian household, its balconies, kitchens and quarrels, the stage for a whole society's passions.

inferred The households of the two women are set in the middle-class Athens neighbourhoods such as Kypseli; the specific houses are invented and sited in those real districts.
